Have Your Say: Party has let down town
IT is an undeniable fact that the Welsh Labour Assembly Government and Wales's Labour Health Minister Mark Drakeford are entirely responsible for the appalling decision to downgrade the Llanelli Hospital A&E department to a nurse-led, GP supported unit.
The disparity of treatment inherent in Mark Drakeford's unfair and unjust decision — to the detriment of the people of Llanelli — is astonishing.
There are four general hospitals in the Hywel Dda Health Board's area and three of them, Withybush, Glangwili and Bronglais, are retaining their full A&E services whereas the hospital in the board's most populous area is to receive an inferior service. How is that for double standards?
However, this is good enough for Llanelli according to Keith Davies, our Labour AM. If so, why isn't it good enough for Withybush, Glangwili and Bronglais?
Our Labour MP is strangely silent on the issue but clearly made little or no impact if she ever made representations to the Welsh Labour Government opposing the proposals.
There is no doubt whatever that the Labour Party has let Llanelli people down badly, a town that has been resolutely, if not blindly, loyal to Labour since the First World War.
