Have Your Say: Don't let us be poor relation
I WAS very pleased to read recently that Plaid Cymru's AM Bethan Jenkins is calling for increased bus service funding by the Labour-controlled Welsh Assembly.
Bus services in the Swansea area are quite pathetic and quite incredible that the second city of Wales has no bank holiday or Sunday services! (Editor's note: on some routes)
Non-car owners, families and the less well off are rapidly becoming second class citizens. Without real public transport, ie buses, many local communities are becoming isolated and local people unable to make hospital visits, meet friends in Swansea or attend the many summertime events such as the Wales Air show and 10k race etc.
And the many other cultural events that take place so often on Sundays and bank holidays.
The drastic cuts in such socially necessary amenities are in my opinion yet another example of the hypocrisy of the Tory millionaire's government, where the elderly, poorly paid and families bear the brunt of their so called 'austerity measures'.
I would also call upon the supporters of the Swansea Bay Cwtch campaign to also back Bethan Jenkins's call for a more socially responsible co-ordinated bus service in our area.
How can Swansea be a City of Culture? But never on a Sunday!
