Have Your Say: Chamber revamp 'insult'
SWANSEA Council and its leader, David Phillips, propose to spend £600,000 of tax payers money on revamping the council chamber.
If it was crawling with woodworm and/or there was water coming through the roof then fair enough, I would want the councillors to actually have the water splashing on their heads first though.
But this is not the case. They just want to revamp this chamber, the same way my mum wanted to change the living room wallpaper, incidentally she went to Wilkinson's, but in every sense there is a massive difference between my mum's living room and this council chamber.
Your report also states there will be an electronic voting system. I would only want that if the councillors were actually wired up to it.
A couple of years ago the first subsidies for the buses were cut and we lost the 11pm and the 9.30pm bus from Swansea to Clydach. The remaining 10.30pm bus no longer goes up to Graig Felen or to Craigcefnparc and I know of several people, including one person who works at Asda who now have to walk up the hill every night. Recently they have stopped running buses to and from Clydach on a Sunday completely.
So this proposal is insulting to the people of Swansea and the surrounding areas. I implore the council to spend the money on restoring bus services, opening Swansea Central Library on Mondays, fixing park benches. Anything rather than this vanity project.
