Have Your Say: Action due on Tip tackle
YOUR correspondent Mark Orders was justified in stating that Tom Wood's clearing out of Justin Tiperic was dangerous in the Northampton match.
An International Rugby Board (IRB) circular to all clubs and referees in August 2008 reminded referees of the following:
Players must not charge into a ruck or maul without binding onto a player. In both he must bind around the body of a teammate.
The IRB circular emphasises there is to be zero tolerance for charging into rucks and mauls without binding.
Adam Jones was done in a similar way for the Lions as was the young Neath scrum half who unfortunately died.
Rugby has always been a hard game and now in the professional era where the stakes are higher it's probably harder.
Many players are in wheel chairs through genuine accidents but this so called 'taking out' needs to be stopped and can be through vigilant refereeing.
The WRU always stress that safety is paramount. Tom Wood should have been sent off or at least cited.
