Savage blow hits Ferrie Bodde
FERRIE Bodde faces a fight to save his career after news that he has suffered a third cruciate ligament injury which will rule him out until next season.

The Dutchman was making his latest comeback attempt after more than three years of injury problems in his left knee, but now faces another minimum six-month lay-off.
His contract at the Liberty Stadium expires at the end of this season, and there are question marks about whether Swansea will offer another deal to a player who has had so many fitness troubles.

Bodde has returned home to begin his recuperation from his latest injury blow, and Brendan Rodgers is planning a visit to Holland soon.
The midfielder’s long-term prospects are bound to be high on the agenda.
“Ferrie has got to be one of the unluckiest players alive,” Rodgers said. “You look at what happened and it’s virtually a nothing challenge.
“I have spoken to Ferrie, and he is trying to be upbeat because that is the guy he is.
“But he is going to need another operation. Once he has that, all being well that will take him up to being out for around four years.
“That’s a long, long time for a footballer.”
Bodde has managed only four brief appearances for Swansea’s first team since he first snapped the cruciate ligament in his left knee way back in November 2008.
A series of comeback attempts have ended in disappointment and, at 29, the former Den Haag playmaker may now have to consider whether he will ever make it back into the professional game.
“The swelling is bad on Ferrie’s knee at the moment,” Rodgers added. “He is back home with his family because there is not a great deal he can do at the moment.
“We just need to take a bit of time to reflect, as Ferrie is doing at the moment, and then we will have a look at things.
“At the moment all we are doing is seeing how he is over the next few weeks, and then we’ll take it from there.”
Bodde made a spectacular impact at the Liberty after signing in an £85,000 deal back in 2007.
His ability to control midfield ensured he played a major role in Swansea’s League One title success in his first season at the club. He then earned rave reviews as the club began life in the Championship, but his spectacular success came to a shuddering halt on a bleak Liberty night against Birmingham City.
“Will he play again? That’s the question that’s been asked over the past few years but he’s fought his way back,” said Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins.
“We’ll provide Ferrie with as much support and help as we can but ultimately it’s down to Ferrie and the way he can get over this further setback and move forward again.”

“There's no doubt a fully fit Ferrie Bodde would have graced the PL. So sad for everyone connected with the club, but particularly for him. Ironic that we're playing Norwich this Saturday. It was only just over 3 years ago that Ferrie took them apart at Carrow Road. That was just 6 days before he had the first knee injury against Birmingham.”

“How can one player be so unlucky? Unfortunately the Swans will surely have to let him go by not extending his contract but to be fair they have been so patient with Ferre while he has been trying to recover. The only other thing to do is to make sure he goes through the coaching badges to keep him in the game whether here in Swansea or back at home in Holland.”
