Nick Bradley, Swansea Council's cabinet member for regeneration, said: "Christmas is always a terrific time of the year in Swansea.
"Events like the annual parade and Waterfront Winterland have become hugely popular features of our annual celebrations that help people of all ages get in the spirit of things and count down till the big day.
"The sight of thousands of onlookers watching Santa turning on the Christmas lights is magical but these events have a positive impact on the local economy too.
"This is a crucial time of year for our city centre traders and it's important we do what we can to encourage shoppers into the city centre. This is why events and attractions of this nature are so important."
The seven-float procession this year will follow a toy land of yesteryear theme.
They are being decorated by the Bonymaen Kids Play Initiative, Doodles, Montana Park Community Centre, Townhill Kick Boxing Club and Rural Youth Clubs.
The floats will be accompanied by marching bands, dance groups and festive street entertainers such as Samba Tawe and the Dixie Land Jazz Band.
The community groups will also be joined in the procession by St Phillips Community Centre on the Bay Rider land train, the Bumbles of Mumbles float and Swansea Council's Waterfront Winterland float.
Meanwhile, a Christmas launch party was set to take place in the city centre today.
Reindeer were among the many fun attractions forming part of the Christmas Cracker event at the junction of Princess Way and Oxford Street between 11am and 3pm.
A stage will be set up near the entrance to Castle Square on the day with live entertainment from The Shuffle Band and John Adams, who appeared on the 2011 season of television talent show The X Factor.
