SWANSEA BAY INVENTIONS
1. Bird's Custard Powder invented by Alfred Bird in his chemist's shop in Port Tennant Road, Swansea.
2. The radar developed by Swansea's Edward George Bowen, the son of a steelworker. Along with four others, he helped develop the radar which could be used to detect aircraft and submarines. He also Invented artificial rain in the 1950s.
3. Anthracite iron David Thomas, from Swansea Valley, used the hot blast to make anthracite iron. He is responsible for accelerating the industrial revolution in the UK.
4.The Stepney spare wheel invented by Walter Davies and his brother Thomas from Llanelli. Stepney spare wheels were used on almost all early motor cars.
5.The fuel cell developed by William Robert Grove (below) from Swansea. The fuel cell produced electrical energy by combining hydrogen and oxygen.
