'STRONG CASE' AGAINST SITE
COCKETT residents feel they have a strong argument why a travellers' site should not be in created their ward — but stressed it was not over any animosity to the travelling community.
Around 250 residents turned out to a meeting at Waunarlwydd Rugby Club on Thursday night, following the news that the former greyhound racing stadium was one of two final "preferred sites" being considered by Swansea Council.
Cockett councillor Andrew Jones said: "There is no animosity to travellers in Cockett. We have a long established private settlement at Gypsy Cross, who are embedded into the community, and there has never been any trouble.
"But the proposal is taken in isolation, when the greyhound site is one of three strategic sites included on the local development plan.
"We think the report has failed to take that into consideration, and it is an argument we will be taking forward."
