Rubbish collections postponed because of the snow
REFUSE collections were one of the casualties of the snowfall — but services to vulnerable people were maintained, say local authorities.
With snow coating the country, there was disruption to schools, transport and, in some parts, power supplies.
Local services were also hit, with refuse and recycling collections cancelled in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot yesterday, as well as in Llanelli and Ammanford.
In Swansea, households which normally leave waste out on Friday will now have their waste collected, weather permitting, on Monday. Collection days for the rest of the week will be one day later than usual, running through to next Saturday.

A Swansea Council spokesman said: "Our staff have been pulling out all the stops to maintain a high quality of service, despite the harsh weather conditions. And they are doing everything possible to maintain critical services, particularly for vulnerable residents. Our website will provide residents with full updates on what services, if any, are affected by the severe weather."
Similarly, they were cancelled in all areas in Neath Port Talbot, and there will be no collections today either, with workers being re-deployed to gritting duties. Council officers are due to review the situation on Monday.
Home care staff in Llanelli also managed to get through — thanks to specialist off-road vehicles and winter driving training.
Gwalia made calls across Llanelli, Burry Port, Kidwelly and other areas this morning with help given to those most in need of support.
The Carmarthenshire organisation has run the winter driver training for staff every winter since launching its home care service in 2010.
