Routledge hails Swansea City character after victory
WAYNE Routledge says Swansea City have proved they can win in Europe when forced to battle.
Michael Laudrup’s men overcame a tough challenge at the Liberty before seeing off St Gallen 1-0.
That made it two wins for Swansea in their Europa League group, though this was much tougher than their opening victory in Valencia.
The Swiss side were difficult opponents and gave Swansea a number of tricky moments, especially in the first half when they should have gone ahead only for Gerhard Tremmel to save a tame penalty.
But Swansea improved after the break and clinched victory when Routledge prodded home after a fine move involving Leon Britton, Alejandro Pozuelo and Wilfried Bony.
“No game is going to be easy,” said Routledge.
“They battled hard and it was a gritty win.
“It shows we have massive character. We can battle, but we can also play when we get the chance to.”
