Riverside Inn, Gorseinon: Cracking place for quality bite
I MUST admit I am obsessed with those cops with cameras programmes — so a pub selling good food and showing Road Wars on the big screen is my idea of heaven.
I found just such an establishment in Gorseinon after a day's hiking in the hills with some friends.
As one of our number put it, we had "walked-up" quite an appetite with our excursions, but it was that funny time of day — the Sunday lunch rush was finished, but the evening meal shift was yet to start, and we were fearful that we wouldn't find anywhere to eat.
But then we happened upon the Riverside Inn in Gorseinon — and it's a cracker.

The decor is modern and welcoming, and the staff are friendly — and my eyes lit-up when I saw my old favourite Road Wars on the telly.
But as is usually the case with me, my stomach over-ruled my head, and I joined my three partners-in-dine in the restaurant area for a post-hike meal.
There's a good selection to choose from on the Riverside menu, with starters such as cawl or a prawn cocktail, and mains including homemade corned beef pie, chicken curry, tomato and basil pasta, grilled salmon and a range of steaky options.
We dispensed with starters, and went straight for the mains — and they were all good.
Diner number one had his usual — fish and chips — and reported excellent chips with a cracking bit of fish, having the perfect balance of hot crispy batter and meaty fish.
Diner number two went for a burger and chips — again the chips were terrific and she said the burger was too, cooked just right and with a real homemade feel.
Diner number three went for steak and ale pie with chips — which got a very enthusiastic thumbs-up — while I had nice meaty Cumberland sausages on a bed of creamy mash with some very nice onion and red wine gravy.
All four plates were cleared in double-quick time — always a good sign.
