HUNDREDS of Swansea parents are being urged to get online this half-term to apply for a secondary school place for their child.

Parents of pupils in the final year of primary school need to apply for a secondary school place for their child.

And following the success of the introduction of online applications last year, parents can do the same this year.

William Evans, cabinet member for learning and skills, said: "We know the transfer from primary to secondary school education can be an anxious time for parents and we find this system makes it easier for parents to submit their bid for a place on time.

"I am delighted that families are already taking up the chance of applying online and I am sure they found it easier than they first thought."

More than 2,400 letters went out to families across Swansea with a unique identification number for their child to help make the process easier, although parents are also able to apply for a school place without one.
