Rethink calls over shake-up
LLANELLI town councillors have called on the fire authority to rethink its decision over proposed changes at the fire station.
Council leader Carl Lucas spoke out about the plans at a meeting, saying that while members had to allow the fire authority to make its decision, when the council has been involved in such a big campaign it must refer it higher.
"I'm informed by the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) that in this instance Carl Sargeant has the power to intervene," he said. "We are asking him to call it in.
"The fire authority and the FBU went back to the technical advisory panel last week for them to determine a couple of key points.

"I've been made aware that the outcome is being released this week. That outcome is favourable to the FBU."
Mr Lucas proposed the council ask the fire authority to rethink its decision in light of the recommendations that came from the panel. "If they refuse to do that then I think in light of their refusal we should be asking the minister to use his powers of intervention," he said.
Councillors passed a unanimous motion to write to the fire authority asking them to reconsider the decision following the panel's report.
They agreed to refer the matter to Carl Sargeant if the fire authority refused to do so.
