Residents in uproar over new housing proposals

A PROPOSED housing development in Ammanford has provoked strong opposition from residents of the area.

More than 200 people have signed petitions opposed to 336 houses on Dyffryn Road.

The plans are set to go before county councillors at a development control meeting tomorrow.

It is recommended the application is approved.

An action group was first set up by the residents of Penybanc in 2009 when plans to develop the land were first proposed.

Chris Green, chairman of the Penybanc Action Group, said: "Strong opposition has come from around the area and it has become a bone of contention.

"They are shoe-horning a large housing estate into a small area."

Penybanc residents have placed "no to 336 houses" posters in their windows opposing the plans. Llandybie Community Council has also expressed its opposition to the proposed development.
