Residents angry at connection delays
SOME residents living on a diversion route in Llandeilo are without a telephone line or internet services after overhead lines were damaged by a lorry.
People in Church Street have been cut off for more than a week.
The BT wires and post were damaged on January 28.
Church Street is one of the diversion routes while Rhosmaen Street is closed for essential gas mains works to be carried out in the town.
Maggie Crimmins, who has been without service because of the incident, said: "I'm appalled about it."
Ms Crimmins said the issue with a delay in fixing the problem seemed to be the amount of traffic going down the road.
"I don't think it is good enough."
She said she is planning to lodge a formal complaint with BT: "There are four or five houses affected and I have no idea when it is going to be fixed."
She said it has also disrupted her work.
"I rely on the internet to receive emails for work at home and that has been made more difficult. I have had to come into the office in Carmarthen just to check my emails after I've finished work."
Llandeilo county councillor Edward Thomas said he was unhappy about the issue. He said: "It is diabolical service from BT and they should be ashamed at the level of service to the residents of Llandeilo and Church Street.
"A week without service is absolutely disgusting."
Street Works and Adoptions Manager Cliff Cleaton said: "Wales and West Utilities are carrying out works which has led to the planned closure of the trunk road in Rhosmaen Street, Llandeilo, with heavy goods vehicles being diverted down Church Street for the duration of the closure.
"Unfortunately an HGV has damaged some BT cables. A meeting has been held with the BT contractor and whilst a new pole could not be safely provided while the road is serving as the trunk road diversionary route, the BT contractor is going to investigate a temporary solution requiring the agreement of BT and the householders involved."
A BT spokesperson said: "The damage to the overhead line has affected four customers and Openreach is now doing all it can to restore service to them as quickly as possible. Openreach is currently waiting for permission from the council to erect a new pole, which is on a traffic diversion route, and would like to apologise for any delay as a result of this. Because of problems getting safe height across the carriageway for overhead wires, it has not been possible to provide a temporary solution."
