DRIVERS are being urged to stop turning a blind eye to thugs hurling missiles at cars from bridges.

The call comes after a lump of concrete was thrown onto a parked car underneath the A48 Briton Ferry bridge at Jersey Marine.

As the Post reported yesterday, driver Lee Thomas, from Caerau, in Maesteg, had only just got out of his Vauxhall Astra when he heard a tremendous crash.

The concrete shattered the windscreen and left a dent in the roof.

Independent research carried out on behalf of Autoglass suggests 94 per cent of people in Wales do not report such incidents, even though one in four of them said they had been affected by them.

The company has released film footage of simulated tests at MIRA (formerly the Motor Industry Research Association), showing the catastrophic damage caused when a brick collides with a windscreen.

Autoglass managing director Matthew Mycock said: "The images from the MIRA testing bring home, only too graphically, how potentially fatal this vandalism can be when you're in a vehicle travelling at motorway speeds.

"Parents can also help reduce this risk by talking to their youngsters about these activities and making them aware of how serious the consequences can be.

"However, the main way to reduce these hidden crimes is for drivers to report all incidents to the police, so they can take action."
