Recession still bites for Welsh businesses
BRITAIN may be out of recession, but industries across South West Wales are still suffering.
More than 250 mine workers in the Neath Valley are in the early stages of a 90-day consultation over plans to mothball a mine at Aberpergwm.
American mining giant Walter Energy bought the operation in 2010 and blamed the "challenging economic environment" for its decision to consider suspending activities at the colliery. Around 60 casino workers in Swansea city centre were also made redundant in August when the Aspers casino closed in Wind Street.
Aspers said the business was no longer economically viable.
