Ready-made for a romantic night
Morrisons, Parc Morfa
Two-course meal with a bottle of pink sparkling wine, £10
What you get: Choice of one main course, side dishes, dessert and a bottle of Orvieto Classico.
We chose: Bistro chicken and brie, M Kitchen potato Dauphinoise, Best Millionaires Cheesecake.
Can you fool your other half? A nice home-cooked look, and the chicken and the potatoes, even if nothing to write home about, could easily pass as your own hard work. No taste was too overwhelming. The wine was lovely and light.
Rating: 7/10 Would have been better if a second vegetable side dish had also been included.
TESCOExtra, Llanelli
Finest Valentine's Day meal for two, £15
What you get: Choice of one main, one side dish, dessert for two and one bottle of wine.
We chose: Finest Restaurant Collection lamb shanks with vegetable confit, Finest chunky chips' two raspberry white chocolate and almond bombes, Freixenet Roke Rose.
Can you fool your other half? Tesco have come up trumps, with tender lamb shanks falling off the bone. The chips could have done with being just a little crisper.
Even so, very good and much of it could have passed for home cooked. The bombes were however restaurant perfect and I would not have been able to pass them off as my own. Best of all, decent helpings mean you won't feel hungry at the end of the meal.
Rating: 8/10 Big flavours, big dishes.
Asda, Gorseinon
Extra Special meal deal; meal for two: £10
What you get: Main, side dish, dessert and wine.
We chose: The choice was huge — the biggest of any we sampled. We opted for boneless sea bass with sun dried tomato and basil butter, carrot and butternut squash and sweet potato, two Extra Special Melt in the Middle puddings and a bottle of Langhorne Creek Chardonnay.
Can you fool your other half? It was all a bit ordinary. So yes, maybe you could! It was easy enough to prepare even for the most basic of cooks. The dessert, however, was delicious as was the wine.
Rating: 6/10. At just £10 including wine, still great value saving around £5.50.
M&S, Pontarddulais Road Retail park
Starter, main, side dish, dessert, chocolates and wine, £20
We chose: Gastropub Camembert with chutney, The Cook Menu beef Wellington, garlic mushrooms, two Belgian souffles, chocolates and bottle of Zinfandel Rose.
Can you fool your other half? Not really! It was all too perfect to be home-cooked. At a bumper £20 this was the most expensive meal for two by quite a margin.
Even so, great value. The rosé was light and very bubbly, while my partner polished off the entire chocolate selection.
Rating: 10/10 A bit pricey. But still a great £14 saving on what would have been the overall cost and a meal that won't leave you feeling fat or reeking of garlic.
Co-operative, Swansea.
What you get: Main, two sides, dessert and a bottle of Cava. £12.
We chose: Chicken breast with tomato and chorizo, vegetables and garlic potatoes, a chocolate dessert for two and cava.
Can you fool your other half? Probably, as it didn't look that special to me.
The garlic could have done with being just a bit stronger and the chicken sauce needed a bit more oomph!
But the dessert was one of the best we tried. Overall though, a bit of a disappointment even at this price.
Rating: 5/10 All a bit too run of the mill.
