A NEW water play park for children in Ammanford is set to cause a splash this summer.

People power has paid off and work has now started on the splash pads, which are replacing the disused swimming pool in Ammanford Park.

It is hoped it will be completed in time of an official opening in June.

Almost 200 schoolchildren wrote letters calling for the facility, and 544 signed a petition backing the project.

Ammanford town councillor Wendy Evans said: "There are some children who cannot afford to go out of Ammanford so this is for them."
