PROPOSALS for limiting charitable rate relief will severely restrict charity income in Wales and create more empty shops, a trade group has claimed.

The Charity Retail Association (CRA) has expressed concerns about the impact of the recent Business Rates Wales Review.

It proposes that the Welsh Government should consult on recommendations to limit the rate relief for charity shops — up to 50 per cent — and restrict the premises charity shops can occupy.

The CRA is writing to First Minister Carwyn Jones to urge him to reject the recommendations.
