Rape accused denies sex with teen girls
A LLANELLI man accused of raping three teenage girls has denied having sex with two of them and claimed that sex with the other was consensual.
Dean Cleobury, of Rhandir, Bynea, was giving evidence from the witness box on day six of his Swansea Crown Court trial.
The 22-year-old, formerly of Culfor Road, Loughor, Swansea, denies rape charges involving two 16-year-old girls and one 15-year-old girl.
The youngest complainant was allegedly raped last August during a camping trip to Pembrey Country Park.
The court has heard that, at the time, Cleobury was on bail accused of sexually attacking the two other complainants.
He is alleged to have raped a 16-year-old five years ago, and to have raped another 16-year-old in the autumn of 2008. Questioned by his barrister, Frank Phillips, Cleobury was adamant that sex with the complainant who was 16 five years ago was consensual.
But he denied having sex with the other 16-year-old, who was allegedly raped when she fell asleep at a party at a house in Loughor 16 months ago. Cleobury admitted being at the party but denied being the attacker who is said to have forced himself on the teenager after she went to sleep in a spare room.
Questioned by Mr Phillips, Cleobury admitted briefly putting the light on in the room in question when he was looking for his hat and coat.
But he rejected claims made by some party guests that he been seen moving the duvet from the sleeping teenager.
Cleobury also denied having sex with the 15-year-old in Pembrey Country Park.
But he told the court that as they walked through woodland the girl kissed him and he kissed her back.
"Later we kissed again and there was a bit more than kissing," he said.
But Cleobury, who said he had believed the girl to be 16, was adamant that their conduct went no further than over-the-clothing fondling
"I never had intercourse with her," he said.
His evidence in the case was continuing today.
