Rangel on verge of sealing contract extension
ANGEL Rangel will no longer be out of contract in the summer if he features for Swansea City at Watford tomorrow.
The right-back's current deal expires at the end of the season, but a clause in the contract states that it will automatically be extended by a year should he play half of Swansea's league games in 2009-10.
And Rangel will hit the all- important 23-appearance mark if, as expected, he is involved at Vicarage Road.
"I am comfortable here and I am happy so I am glad that I will have another year on my contract after my next appearance," the defender said.
"Swansea gave me my chance. I love this club and I think the club loves me as well.
"There has been speculation about Celtic being interested in me this month, but it was just a rumour.
"I have been quiet and I have been relaxed because I know I belong to Swansea City."
Swansea are keen for Rangel to extend his deal beyond 2011 but the player has so far failed to sign.
Hence chairman Huw Jenkins took a swipe this week at Base Soccer, the agency who represent Rangel plus Andrea Orlandi and Jazz Richards, who have also stalled on contract offers.
"Whatever agents do, I can't do much about," Rangel added.
"I am focusing on Swansea and the play-offs. Hopefully, if we can get there and win promotion, that would be the best thing for everyone.
"I don't think this is the best moment to be talking about extending my contract. There is plenty of time to speak about that, I am not worried."
Rangel was a surprise absentee when Swansea drew at Middlesbrough last weekend, but returned for the midweek stalemate against Coventry.
"You always want to play, but I wasn't shocked because Ashley (Williams) was rested the game before," he said.
"The gaffer is doing some rotation which he feels is best for the team. I'm sure he wants to keep the whole squad fresh."
