On Friday Acoustic Meeting Ground at Pontardawe Arts Centre presents The Yirdbards at 8pm. Formed in 2010, they have gained a great following at folk clubs and festivals and released two highly acclaimed CDs. From Wiltshire, on their first visit to South Wales, Paul Darby – guitar and vocals, Verity Sharp – cello, fiddle and vocals, Patrick Randall – mandola, mandolin, concertina, guitar and vocals joined by Iona Hassan on fiddle will supply fine well-crafted songs and tunes.
Phil Burkin, from Kent, is no stranger to Wales and is a fine singer of British and American songs accompanied on banjo, Appalachian dulcimer and spoons. Hosted by Bear Bones.
Singer-songwriter-guitarist Ralph McTell will appear at Pontardawe Arts Centre on Saturday with the One More For The Road tour. Over a 48 year career he has wowed audiences with beautifully crafted narrative songs, combined with dextrous finger style guitar playing and evocative story-telling,
On Sunday The Halfpenny Folk Club,Greyhound Inn, Oldwalls, Gower have one of the greatest acts on the folk scene today, Vin Garbutt. Hilarious storytelling, powerful songwriter, Vin is an accomplished guitarist and fine whistle player.
Global international music event WOMEX 13 is in Cardiff until Sunday. The Gorwelion - Horizons Wales-wide tour will take four international artists and pair them up with four top Wales based musicians or groups. Local performances include Sunday at The Welfare, Ystradgynlais - Ebo Taylor (Ghana) and Alaw (Wales). Tuesday the Taliesin Theatre, Swansea - Cumbia Allstars (Peru) and DnA (Wales). Wednesday, Pontardawe Arts Centre - Les Tambours De Brazza (Rep. of the Congo) and 9Bach (Wales).
Enjoy a blast from the past on Wednesday at Llantrisant Folk Club, The Windsor Hotel, Pontyclun when Mike James visits from Brittany. He will be joined by Stephane Gruyer, who plays sax and oboe. Expect lots of Breton and Gallo music.
