Two people had to be rescued by lifeboatmen after becoming stranded by the incoming tide on Burry Holms at Rhossili Bay.

The pair, from Cardiff and Newport, ventured out at low water not realising the island becomes cut off from the Gower mainland two-and-a-half hours before high water.

They dialled 999 on a mobile phone to request help from Swansea Coastguard, which asked volunteers at the RNLI's Burry Port station to  launch the Atlantic 75 Dorothy Selina vessel to take them back to Rhossili Beach.

The RNLI said the pair were sensible not to attempt to cross the strait as the tide came back in.

“Let's hope they made a large contribution to RNLI
    Isn't there a warning sign”
