SWANSEA City will today sit down with Angel Rangel to sort out his future after Blackpool tabled an offer of around £750,000 for the right-back.

Brendan Rodgers says he will attempt to persuade Rangel to sign a new deal after insisting Swansea have no need to sell.

But the 27-year-old is likely to have the final say over where he plays next season as he only has one year to run on his current contract.

Swansea could snub Blackpool's advances and force Rangel to stay for another 12 months.

But Rangel has made it clear in the past that he is keen to play Premier League football — and Swansea are aware that they will lose him for nothing if he ends up leaving next summer.

Wigan have also been linked with the defender, but Rodgers says he has heard nothing from the Latics as yet.

"There has been a bid from Blackpool," said the Swansea manager. "I have spoken with the chairman and we will have a meeting with Angel to see how we go forward.

"He is a player I want to keep and I don't have to sell anyone. I want Angel to stay with us — I want to offer him a new contract that will keep him here and then it will be up to him.

"I know he wants to play in the Premier League, but I think this is the place for him to be. We all want to be in the Premier League and, hopefully, this club will get there over the next few years."

Rangel, a £10,000 bargain buy from Terrassa in 2007, has been linked with moves away ever since being named in the League One team of the season in his debut Swansea campaign.

He has talked of his top-flight ambitions in the past, and criticised the club for not letting him go after Fulham showed an interest on the final day of the last transfer window.

"He is in the last year of his contract and his ambition is to play in the Premier League," Rodgers added.

"But he is very much part of the group. He is a good player and a good man and he enjoys his time at Swansea.

"But there is going to be discussion, as there was when we had the interest in Darren Pratley.

"The bid has not been accepted — we are in no rush. They have spoken to the chairman and we will now sit down to discuss things with Angel.

"We will take it from there."

Rangel did not feature in last night's 9-1 demolition of Dutch minnows VCS, but Rodgers insisted that he had always planned to rest the Spaniard.

“There's always a few numpty comments on here...

peter, Ireland - if we're in Premiership in a few years time dosn't mean we won't be there next season.

slumdog trust millionaire, landore - ffs, get a grip. Rangel isn't some kind of God. If you really think all the other players will leave just because he does, you are truly Numpty No. 1.”

“Bought for 10k in 2007, gave us two good seasons and now with 1yr left on his contract a bid of 750k has been made. Sounds good business sense to me - cheers Angel........ enjoy a season of being the Prem's whipping boys and we'll see you back in the Championship for 2011/2012.
Any ideas on a right back; or central defender if we chose to put Tatey on the right, that we can pick up for 750k and hopefully see some change?”

“Personally I dont think he will be greatly missed as he spent alot of last season injured and Jazz Richards was a more than capable replacement...and of course we have super Alan Tate who will cover every position on the pitch just to pull on that white shirt! I fear that Angel Rangel does not possess a fraction of the commitment as these players.
Rangel had an outstanding 2 seasons with us, and was worth 2m in my eyes at the time. However, he has 1yr left on his contract, had a very poor season last season and shows no love for anything but the money.
If we had an offer on 1m I would let him go.
I do not know much about Buck Rodgers...but have to put my faith in his decisions until proved otherwise.
Looking forward to the new season...just hope we can get a couple of faces in to draw in the crowds, as we are left with a quite unattractive squad at present.”

“if he says anything near what he said last time when fulham came, we should sell, weve got excellent cover there in tate, and taylor as a natural left back, so we can use the money for a good striker or midfielder”

“as private Fraser was often quoted as saying..."we're doomed!"
if angel goes the departure lounge will be full of our best players leaving. if he choses blackpool, with only one year in the premier, over staying with us. angel will be saying he has no faith in buck or the club anymore, nothing more, nothing less.
    dont go angel.”
