Pupils draw on Dylan's words for new artwork
PUPILS in a Swansea school have been using modern technology to create works of art out of the old and the new.
Using the lyrical genius of Dylan Thomas and their own designs drawn on iPads pupils from Danygraig Primary School have created panels to decorate their outside wall.
The work was supervised by freelance professional artist Nina Morgan.
She said: "We are coming up to the celebrations of the birth of Dylan Thomas and we decided that it would be lovely to incorporate some of Dylan's poetry and prose into works of art.
"We have used iPads and the Sketchbook app to create the artwork and the designs are going to be printed on large boards and displayed outside the school.
"I'm thrilled, it's a fantastic achievement, their drawing skills are wonderful, I was very impressed. They thoroughly enjoyed the exercise and asked if I could stay but I have another workshop in Ynystawe next week."
Deputy head teacher Adrian Burn said: "It's all about stimulating the children's interest in art. Nina's expertise is something that we wouldn't normally have and it's great to be able to take advantage of her skills.
"With the Dylan Thomas 100 approaching it was a truly cross-curricular exercise and fitted in with other areas of the curriculum.
"It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to work with a professional artist."
Pupil Shaun Williams, aged 9, said: "It was great. I wish we could do this every week."
