PUPILS from Morriston Comprehensive School have landed prizes for completing an unusual course.

The youngsters have been recognised for their angling skills after taking part in the Countryside Alliance Foundation's Fishing for Schools programme.

The course gives pupils fishing equipment and then provides tuition by a team of experts led by renowned fly fisherman Charles Jardine which covers everything from how to tie flies and cast through to safety, insect life, fish biology and respect for local wildlife.

Mr Jardine, who returned to Morriston to hand out the prizes, said: "I have been to Morriston a few times now and always enjoy a warm welcome.

"Watching self esteem, confidence and delight blossom in these youngsters through angling is a real delight, and it was doubly nice to come back to present them with awards to mark their achievements.

"Fly fishing acts as a gateway to the natural world, and the benefits of getting kids out of the classroom and into the great outdoors are numerous."
