A GWENDRAETH Valley school has offered a helping hand to an animal welfare charity.

Ysgol y Gwendraeth pupils from Year 9 and 10 donated toys and clothes to the RSPCA Llys Nini Animal Centre.

It was part of the Drefach school's Prince's Trust XL club, which aims to help young people at risk of exclusion.

Two former pupils, Robyn Andrews of Trimsaran and Ezme Short of Tumble, both 16, were each highly commended in the Prince's Trust Capgemini Educational Achiever of the Year award for their efforts in turning their lives around earlier this year.
