ARTISTIC pupils have created a cracking canvas and won their school a portrait of Dylan Thomas in the process.

The year six pupils from St Helen's Primary School, Vincent Street, Swansea, won a competition organised by Anne Haden, who along with her husband Geoff restored the famous Swansea poet's birthplace in Cwmdonkin Drive, Uplands.

The varnished block-frame canvas includes sketches and sections of prose from Thomas's play, Under Milk Wood.

"Anne recommended we use our piece of work as a postcard," said deputy head teacher Kevin Hodder.
