A SERIES of public meetings and protests will be held over the next seven days against a proposed second site for travellers in Swansea.

Swansea Council is looking at providing further accomm- odation for Gypsies and Travellers as Swansea has only one legal site, which is full.

A three-month consultation is now under way to obtain the views of people living in the area on work carried out so far in the search for the most appropriate location for the site.

Thousands of leaflets were distributed in Gorseinon at the weekend to publicise a public meeting which was due to be held last night in the Llwchwr Working Men's Club to discuss two potential sites for travellers in the area at Heol y Mynydd and a cemetery site.

Organiser Beverly Howard said: "We are going to do what we feel is right.

"It is our town, we live in it and I think people want something done."

Response

A meeting of Grovesend Community Council is also due to take place tonight at the Grovesend Miners Welfare Club on Plas Road in Grovesend to formalise a response to Swansea Council on the two potential sites in Gorseinon.

A similar meeting of Gors- einon Town Council will be held with the same aim at the Gorseinon Institute tomorrow.

On Saturday at 10am campaigners fighting against a potential site at a former greyhound track in Fforestfach will gather to have their voices heard.

And, on Tuesday next week at 7pm, another public meeting will be held in the Brighton Road Club in Gorseinon to gauge public opinion over the two proposed sites in the town.

Swansea Council has launched a dedicated website for people to register their views.

Hard copies of all the online information are also available at libraries for viewing, along with hard copies of the comment forms.

“Attention! Attention! Attention! Traveller supporters, apologists and pro-traveller decision makers! Could you please offer your own personal grounds and accommodation to the itinerants whom you repeatedly defend, appease, and show obvious concern for? Please personally contact the South Wales Evening Post so they can advertise the available space you are prepared to offer.

What better way of showing your sincerity? What better way of showing that you live by example and are not yourself(s) the worst possible example of an utterly moronic and politically correct "do as I say and not as I do" hypocrite? Remember! You support them! You defend them! Well now is your chance to have a few of them! Demand The South Wales Evening Post makes your selfless act of philanthropy a front page 'good news' story.

Please do not be a disgraceful hypocrite like traveller supporting actress Vanessa Redgrave. You know? The very 'concerned' Mrs Redgrave whom when challenged on live TV to offer her own grounds and residence to travellers did absolutely ZERO. She had the perfect opportunity there to set the perfect example and to live by example of practising what she preached i.e. for people to live amongst the subculture she supported. Bizarrely she went strangely quiet on that issue. Was that any surprise?”
