PUB chain Marston's will create more than 45 jobs when it opens a restaurant bar in Carmarthen in the new year.

Construction work is currently ongoing at Pensarn and it will start trading from January.

This week plans were lodged with Carmarthenshire Council seeking permission for signage at the premises.

The pub restaurant will be named The Caraway and will be the second venture to open at the new development which saw fast food giant KFC open on Monday with the creation of 60 jobs.

A Marston's spokesman said the firm was looking forward to opening the Pensarn venture.

He added: "The Caraway is part of an ongoing new build programme from Marston's Inns and Taverns to provide quality pubs throughout the UK."

A Farm Foods supermarket is also part of the development along with three retail units, understood to be taken by well-known brands.

When complete more than 100 jobs will be created.

Community leaders on Llangunnor Community Council, which covers Pensarn, have welcomed the plans from the outset.

Llangunnor community and county councillor Elwyn Williams said: "It will be the only pub in the parish of Llangunnor and it is local employment so the council welcomes it.

"It will be a family restaurant too and good for the area.

"The road layout off the A484 will be improved to the development too which is also a good move."

Carmarthen Chamber of Commerce said the development will complement the town and not draw trade away from the town centre.

The 25,000 square metre development is seen as being in a prime location with good access to the M4 and being close enough to Carmarthen town.
