ANTI-WIND farm campaigners have united in song for a special protest.

The song they have created is set to the stirring tune of We'll Keep A Welcome In The Hillside and has been sung by protesters who formed their own impromptu male voice choir.

It comes as planners prepare to make a final decision on proposals for 21 turbines on Mynydd Llanllwni at Bryn Llywelyn.

The planning application, from Renewable Energy Systems (RES), is pencilled in to be decided by the county planning committee on November 20.

John Jones, chairman of the Llanllwni action group, said: "I am reasonably optimistic. If the planning officers look at the whole arrangement, I can't see how they can go ahead with it."

He said the group had rallied round and decided to create their song as a fun way to protest.

He is now giving away free copies of their CD from his pub, the Talardd Arms in Llanllwni. The group have also uploaded it on to the internet and hope to post a music video version this week.

Mr Jones said musician Alan Townsend, from Maescrugiau, wrote the lyrics, which poke fun at energy companies and the governments in Westminster and Cardiff.

Turning to the planning debate ahead, he said the group was ready to challenge the developer's claims about the wind farm.

"We've got fantastic support," said Mr Jones. "What amazes me is the talent that we've found."

He said there were about 50 members of the action group, many who have retired and offered the expertise in fighting the plans.

"When we first looked at RES's documents, they were about five inches thick. All our hearts dropped because it looked so professional. I decided to divide it up and pass it to those people who knew about each subject.

"What we've got is good local knowledge.

"Lots of us are graziers and know that mountain inside out."

He said the group was now deciding who was going to speak at the forthcoming planing meeting.

Mr Jones added: "We said that this must not get personal and what I am most proud of, as chairman, is that for the most part, that has not happened."

It is expected that the planning department will visit Mynydd Llanllwni on November 20 before returning to County Hall in the afternoon to make a decision.

“Well done on creating this song. A lot of us in North Wales have been circulating it via Facebook. We've got a fight on our hands up here too to try and prevent a massive wind factory being built within clear view of the Snowdonia National Park - 25 turbines of 175 m or 475 feet, the highest currently onshore in the UK planned for the Upper Dee Valley, which is not even in TAN8. Wales ALREADY produces more energy than it uses, and it is madness to desecrate our stunning countryside with these usless monsters. Our tourist industry, which is vital to Wales' economy, could also take a right battering. Best of luck to you all!”

This was mentioned earlier by Gwyddno, but you probably chose not to read it as it isn't what you want to hear.......I remember you told me to get rid of my crystal ball last week, well, my crystal ball told me not to.

“NeathPTboy The uk has known since 2002 that our coal power stations will not meet the criteria set out by the EU to be introduced in 2014-15, and has done nothing about it. In a word Westminster has acted pathetically”

“It's because we've spent the last 7 years being dictated to by Brussels on our energy that the UK is facing blackouts, and to be quite frank that says it all.”

“siarad2 i agree it does seem very odd that the UK and Germany are going in different directions. I think the time has now come for the EU to oversea the energy industry. If ever there was a case for more European integration then this is it.”

Never is a short time in politics
How come Germany is closing nuclear energy stations & building coal fired ones & we're doing the opposite.”

“It's time these wind companies were heavily fined for failing to meet their required energy.
At this moment the WHOLE of the UK wind energy is enough to boil 200k kettles, slightly over 1% of the current grid usage.
UK wind energy is supposed to be the homes equivalent of 5.4m but is only 200k, don't even think of cooking your Sunday lunch: fine them!
5.4m homes is probably one fifth of the total, so the wind generation should be 8.6GW not about one twentieth, 5.7%, of it. Oops my calculation shows slightly more than the installed wind capacity of 7.39GW but not too bad for guesswork & rounding errors.
    Fine them!”
