A HERITAGE trust has backed calls to protect Hendrefoilan House in Swansea — a building considered by the Victorian Society to be one of the most endangered in Wales.

The Penllergare Trust is restoring Penllergare Valley Woods, which was designed by the late John Dillwyn Llewelyn. His younger brother, Lewis Llewelyn Dillwyn, built Hendrefoilan House.

Trust chairman Terry Jones said: "We need to protect Swansea's heritage sites such as Penllergare Valley Woods and Hendrefoilan House in order to promote the legacy of the Dillwyn family who were pioneers and movers in science, culture, politics and industry during the 19th Century."

The building's owners, Swansea University, said it had restored a part of the house and had discussed future ideas with groups such as the National Trust.
