Proposed housing scheme slashed
PLANS for nearly 100 new houses in Trimsaran have been withdrawn by developers.
Westbury Homes applied to construct 250 affordable homes in 2008 as part of stage three of the Ffos Las Racecourse project.
But the scheme has since been re-evaluated by the developer, who branded the move "unviable in the current financial climate" due to land and infrastructure costs, cutting the actual number of new builds at the site to 157.
The developers told Carmarthenshire Council they felt the homes were unlikely to be sold and would have a relatively high construction cost.

Unsustainable
They added that the value would be unsustainable commercially and would no longer match the local housing need.
Ward councillor Meryl Gravell described the decision as "sensible".
She said: "Nothing is moving very much at the moment, and I think it is best to try and sell what we have already got planning for, rather than create more houses again.
"I think it is a sensible move by the developers."
The council's housing section indicated that there was a low demand for housing in Carway, but added there was a specific need for a disability bungalow for a family in "dire circumstances" in the same area.
Westbury Homes has therefore agreed to make a commuted sum of £100,000 which would make up for the housing grant and enable the disability bungalow to be provided.
Mrs Gravell added: "What we do need in this area is more social housing.
"Anything that helps house people with different needs is a very sensible way to go in my opinion."
