Prom should be in the spotlight
MONEY really is too tight to mention at the moment — there just isn't enough of it to go around.
Every sector of public life claims to be under-funded, from the universities, through social projects and across to the arts.
Dozens of groups that have previously received grant funding by ticking a few boxes have had to leave empty-handed last time round.
Meanwhile, £1.3 million is to be spent on improving the prom between the Civic Centre and the Marina.
Is that a lot of money to spend on paving and lighting at a time like this? The Assembly Government thinks not, and neither does the European Regional Development Fund.
And we agree.
Enhancing our greatest natural asset — the sweep of the bay — with a well-lit and safer prom is just the kind of improvement this city needs.
When completed, walkers and cyclists will be encouraged to people to enjoy a picturesque stroll well into the evening in a way that few cities in the world can offer.
And think how wonderful it would be if the lighting extended all the way to Mumbles.
