GARNFFRWD

The lake is fishing well despite the cold weather. Some cracking fish have been caught in the past week, firstly the 18lb brown trout that, after his capture last October, was given the name Donk.

A very happy Andy Griffin used a black and red nomad and fished a foot or two down to lure this monster.

After a hard fight, Donk came to the net. Looking a picture of health he was released back to the depths of the lake.

The second round of the Garnffrwd Challenge Shield took place and this time it was Alan Martin who took first place and a ten-point tally. He was closely followed by Dan Graham in second and Chris Jones in third.

Jones has a six-point lead going into the third round, which will be fished at the end of March.

Bloodworm patterns have been catching fish, but in cold weather the lures are still going well fished on a slow, sinking line.

PAPERMILL

It has been bitterly cold with easterly winds blowing for much of the week.

Wyn Phillips caught a superb 6lb rainbow on a damsel nymph, while Ritchie Hughes landed an 8lb brownie which was safely returned to the lake.

Alan Davies caught a cracking 20lb brownie which was also safely returned.

Fly: Mark Thomas three fish 9lb 10oz caught on a hothead damsel. Wayne Saunders three fish 9lb 3oz caught on a black fritz. David Smith three fish 9lb 1oz caught on an orange fritz.

Worm: Matthew Williams three fish 8lb 10oz. Carl Tompkins three fish 8lb 2oz. Lee James three fish 8lb.
