Praise for modest marina hero
A MODEST hero has been praised for stopping a distressed woman from jumping into the waters of Swansea Marina.
Julie Dower, who works in the marina office, was off-duty and walking with a friend at 3.30pm on Wednesday when she saw a woman trying to climb through the railings near the Waterfront Museum.
She went over to the 40-year-old and managed to calm her down and keep her safe until the emergency services arrived.
But the good Samaritan played down what she had done. She said: "She was threatening to jump in the water. I talked to her and tried to keep her calm ensuring that she could not enter the water until the police and ambulance arrived."
Ms Dower's efforts were praised by marina manager Steve Kern. He said: "I am delighted but not surprised that my staff responded in this way. The woman had clearly put her safety in danger and I am glad that they were able to help and comfort her."

“Absolutely well done Julie, I'm sure your manager Mr Sid Kearne is extremely proud to have you as a member of his staff, if only more people could care for others like this modern role model did.”

“I agree, well done. However, any of us could be prone to suicide; there are plenty of people under a lot of stress right now, both marital and financial. Live light & live without (unnecessary) debt and learn to be happy with the simple things in life.
Why burden yourself by carrying a load of rubbish on your shoulders that, at the end of the day, none of us really needs?
I hope the lady involved finds the peace that is within all of us - if we care to look for it that is; you won't find it in Primark but you will find it when you sit quietly beside our lovely ocean and reflect of "life", then you will have a giggle at the people who are chasing an illusion.”

“Well done you for saving this woman..
All this highlights, though, the serious and chronic underfunding of mental health services - when so much money goes to those who don't need it.”
