Port Talbot luckiest town in UK after second postcode lottery win
PORT Talbot is the luckiest town in the United Kingdom when it comes to the postcode lottery — and here's the proof.
Three families living in the SA12 postcode area have picked up a total of £1 million in winnings after the People's Postcode Lottery came to town.
It is the second time in a year that the steel town has won the jackpot making it the most successful in the country when it comes to the game.
Last April, the Postcode Lottery shared out £2 million with 58 residents living in the town's SA12 6 area.
This time over 300 families enjoyed a share of a £2million pot — with prizes ranging from £750 to £500,000 — at a special party at Hollywood Park on the seafront in Aberavon on Saturday.
One of the organisers, Kate Pearson, said: "We were here last year, exactly a year ago, which is just incredible, we couldn't believe it. It must be a very lucky town.
"The three big winners had no idea they were going to win so much money. It's life-changing.
It's a nice job making people rich. I hope that we will be back here again soon, I think the residents of Port Talbot have their fingers crossed. They seem to be the luckiest people in Great Britain at the moment."
The biggest winner was Peter "Brummie" Summers, a 53-year-old manager at Port Talbot transport firm, Doyle Transport, who scooped £500,000.
He said: "I will be back in work on Monday morning because my boss is on holiday in Spain and I would never let him down, he's been a great boss."
Asked whether he would give up his job eventually he said: "It's a lot of money and I don't know what I'm going to do at the moment. It's a big step. I have six children and 13 grandchildren, I'm going to treat them all.
"I have worked all my life and never had anything. This is just a dream come true."
He added that his wife, Pamela, did not want to play the lottery. He said: "I asked her to go shares with me but she said no! We will see how keen she is to get on this now. I'm sure she will have it spent for me."
Mrs Summers said: "I'm over the moon for him. I didn't care how much he won, I just wanted to see him proud."
Of the other two big winners Tata Steel worker , Jeff Davies, 52, who is married to Rosemary, 52, picked up £250,000 said: "I never thought that it would happen. You never think that you are going to be the one to win anything. It was a totally shock. I have only ever won the odd £10 on the Lottery before.
"I have 18 days off so I have plenty of time to think about it. We will sit down and discuss our plans for the future. We are not going to rush into anything."
Mrs Davies added: "We were shocked. We are definitely going to have a nice holiday next year."
And Sarah Edwards, 47, who shares the same amount with husband Gary, 50, and children Jessica, 17, and Ieuan, 15, said: "It's going to change our lives quite a bit."
