Population united behind Swansea City against Cardiff City as hours count down to Premier League derby
SOUTH Wales derby fever is building in Swansea.
Ahead of the first top-flight meeting between the Swans and Cardiff tomorrow afternoon fans and supporters are gearing up for what promises to be a mouth-watering clash.
And 24 hours before kick-off, the Post has been inundated with good luck messages for the club.
Former star Lee Trundle will be making the trip to the capital to watch the match with the rest of the Jack Army.
The Swans hero said: “I cannot wait. With it being the first one in the Premier League it is going to make it that more special. I will be going down as a fan with the rest of them.
“I was only involved in two games against them, under Paulo Sousa and never got the chance to get on, which was disappointing.
“It was a great atmosphere, the rivalry between the two teams, for me it was a game I wanted to get on in. These are the big games, to have scored would have been unbelievable.
“I think it will be a tight game. I would love to get a win but I think the way both sides are playing a draw might be on the cards. Good luck to the boys, everyone in the city is behind you.”
Also sending messages of luck — to both teams — was former Wales, Lions and Llanelli legend Phil Bennett (left).
One of Welsh sports most respected voices, the rugby star said he hoped the day would be a great day for Wales.
He said: “My heart is with Swansea but I am a great admirer of Cardiff as well.
“I am hoping that Sunday will be a great occasion for Welsh football and for both sets of supporters and may the best side win.
“I just hope the fervour and passion comes out in the right way.
“I would have gone up to Cardiff but I have some relations coming down from quite a long way away so it wouldn’t be very polite for me to go. I cannot wait for the game.”
The derby will kick off in Cardiff at 4pm.
