Politicians welcome more than 230 Virgin Media jobs coming to Swansea
LEADING politicians have welcomed the impending arrival of more than 230 call centre jobs in Swansea.
Virgin Media employs more than 800 people at its Centre of Excellence for customer service in Swansea, which opened in July last year.
On Thursday the company announced it would create 230 product development, sales and customer care roles in the city to meet TiVo and broadband demand.
Business Minister Edwina Hart said: "Virgin Media is a key employer in the Swansea area making an important contribution to the regional economy and I am delighted they are continuing to invest in Wales and expanding their operation in Swansea.

Swansea East AM Mike Hedges said: "This is exciting news for our city and will be a real boost for the local job market and economy.
"I'm delighted that Virgin Media have made a decision to expand their operations and create an extra 230 new jobs here in Swansea to meet the growing demand for its services.
"With the company already employing around 900 local people in Swansea, today's announcement further reinforces Swansea's reputation as a great place to do business."
Virgin Media was acquired by international cable company Liberty Global earlier this month.
The deal is expected to have created the world's largest broadband communications company in a stock and cash merger valued at approximately $23.3 billion.
A spokeswoman for Virgin Media said: "Part of what attracted Liberty Global to Virgin Media was our people. We believe that, just as this deal is good news for our customers, our staff will benefit from being part of a bigger, global business.
"Liberty Global recognises the skills and experience of Virgin Media's employees and expects them to play a leading role in the new company."

“If they are such leading politicians then how come these AMs were left out of the loop when Virgin Media made their jobs announcement? Perhaps the firm has not forgotten how some people in Cardiff Bay regret capitalism.”
