Alleged £100,000 cannabis plantation uncovered in Swansea house

POLICE have uncovered an alleged £100,000 cannabis plantation in a house in Swansea following tip-offs from members of the public.

Officers say they found more than 400 plants growing over three storeys of the Mount Pleasant property when they swooped yesterday evening.

Police have thanked the public for their help — and said the seizure has made South Wales a safer place.

The officers executed the warrant at a house in Rosehill Terrace at 4.20pm on Monday.

Sergeant Mike Francis of Swansea Central police station said: “This significant seizure was discovered as a direct result of information supplied to us by members of the public, and I would like to thank those people who came forward.

“The streets of Swansea and South Wales are now going that much safer as this haul of drugs will not now be inflicting harm and misery in our communities.”

A 37-year-old Vietnamese man arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis remains in custody.

Sergeant Francis appealed for anyone with information or suspicions about cannabis being grown in their communities to come forward.

And he said there were “tell tale signs” that a property may be being used to grow the drug which people could look out for.

He said: “It has been well documented in the past that there have been tell tale signs of possible cannabis plantations, which I would like to reiterate.

“These signs could include any unusual behaviour and infrequent callers to premises, together with blackened out windows and excessive lighting.”
