POLICE are looking for a beer thirsty fly-tipper who is dumping bags of empty cans in Morriston lanes.

The drinker has been leaving blue carrier bags full of empty Carling cans between lower Morfa Street and lower Crown Street, near the old canal bridge.

More recently the dumper has been leaving the rubbish in Davies Street. At Morriston and Caemawr Pact meeting the issue was brought up by police and residents.

Originally there were concerns that youths were drinking alcohol and leaving their empty cans by the canal.

Police Community Support Officer John White said: "When it was made a Pact priority last meeting we thought it was youths leaving their empty cans. But it seems as if it is more a littering issue.

"I went around all the off licences in the area to see if they had a special offer on Carling in the hope they may be able to identify the person involved, but it turned out they all did.

"There are a few shops which give out plain blue carrier bags."

Before Christmas around 20 bags were removed from the canal area.

Sergeant Steve Pritchard appealed to residents to keep their eyes peeled. "This is not youths it is somebody deliberately littering the area," he said.

"If it was youths we would more than likely find a variety of bottles and cans rather than just Carling and I don't think they would make the effort to put their rubbish into a carrier bag.

"If anybody knows who this person is or has seen anybody carrying blue rubbish bags in the area, they should let us know."

Mr White said the bags were usually filled with eight to 12 cans of Carling. He said: "The litterer has in the last week or so moved his dumping spot 50 metres up the road to Davies Street.

A Swansea Council spokesman said: "The council can carry out enforcement action against anyone discarding litter if there is sufficient evidence.

"We would urge residents to contact us if they have any further information that could help us with our investigations."
