Police search in Swansea for escaped prisoner who absconded from hospital
POLICE are advising the public not to approach a "violent and dangerous" prisoner on the run from a secure hospital.
Austin Phillips was on remand for burglary and violence offences at Swansea Prison when he was transferred to Cygnet Hospital in Somerset for a mental health assessment.
However, the 25-year-old absconded from the hospital on Sunday and is now on the run — and police think he may have returned to South West Wales.
A spokesman for South Wales Police urged anyone with information on his whereabouts to come forward.
He said: "Avon and Somerset and South Wales Police are searching for an escaped prisoner who has absconded from a hospital in Weston-super-Mare.
"He is described as violent and dangerous, and he should not be approached by members of the public.
"It is believed he has returned to the Swansea area where the police search is concentrated.
"Anyone with any information as to his whereabouts is asked to contact South Wales Police."
When Phillips was last seen Phillips he was wearing white baseball boots, dark blue, baggy jeans, and a beige jumper.
