Police not to record lost items
SOUTH Wales Police will no longer be taking reports of missing or lost items from Monday.
Lost items — for example a mobile phone or passport — should be reported to the appropriate phone company or government agency, the force has said.
The force said it will maintain a database of items that are found and handed in at police stations — but it urged people to try to return items themselves.
Julian Kirby, South Wales Police's assistant chief constable, said: "The way we deal with lost and found property has been reviewed and the new levels of service will save people time when they lose property and help to get more found items back to owners."

“The Police are controlled and directed by the Home Office - If you don't like what the Police do then vote differently at the next election”

“Panasonic, yes they will take it, but not record it and it will end up in a room with no one knowing where it is and will most likely not get claimed.
If the Police aren't recording it then we need a proper lost and found office.
I know 2 (now ex)Swansea policemen who emigrated, one to join the Canadian police and one to Australia. They did so because they were fed up with the way our Police are going and the subsequent loss of respect from the public.”

“WHAT EXACTLY DO THEY DO? ANYTHING? We pay for them on our council tax, but the only time I ever see them is in a supermarket, buying food! I live in Clydach, :( There is NO policing in Clydach. People constantly park on double yellows in the village, and on zig zags.
Last week I was in the village and a police car slowed to look at the FIVE cars parked on the double yellows opposite the bank, (nothing unusual in that...any day of the week!!)...short discussion, then drove on. Couldn't be bothered? Too much trouble? Yawn.
Cars race past my house at all times in what is SUPPOSED TO BE a 30mph limit. Silencers don't seem to matter any more. Half the population drive while using their mobiles...is that legal now? Or JUST SOMETHING ELSE THAT DOESN'T MATTER?
I doubt I've seen a 'police officer' walking on the streets in Clydach in the last year.
SO...SOMETHING ELSE THEY'RE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR?????? NO SURPRISE THERE, THEN!!!!!”

“Did somebody say that we can still hand in items at a police station? What police station? Most of the stations that still exist are not open to the public. I think there'll shortly be only some 4 stations open to the public west of bridgend in SW Police area. I went to one a short time ago and found the door locked. I could see officers inside chatting at a desk, and they were watching me ringing the bell. But that is as far as I got.”

“Siarad, not every lost item can be identified so easily. To be honest I would do my best to return something I found but sometimes you need somewhere safe and responsible to leave things. Maybe the council need a lost and found office if the Police won't do it.”

“This doesn't surprise me at all. I don't imagine for one minute they have anything handed in to actually record. There is so much "finders keepers" dishonesty these days and far too much "I want that so I'm taking it".”
