POLICE inquiries into allegations against three Swansea councillors are continuing.

Leader Chris Holley, deputy leader John Hague and acting Conservative group leader Paxton Hood- Williams were reported to the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales for allegedly breaching the code of conduct.

It is claimed, the Evening Post understands, spending in certain Tory wards was offered in exchange for support of the administration.

The ombudsman investigation is currently on hold while police officers decide whether a criminal investigation should be brought against the three members.

Yesterday, a South Wales Police spokesman said: "Inquires are on going."

Since the investigation was launched Mr Hood-Williams, ward member for Fairwood, has been suspended from the Conservative Party.

However, he is continuing as acting leader of the Swansea Conservative Councillors' Group, following Mayals councillor Rene Kinzett's resignation from the role.

There have been calls from Swansea Labour members for Mr Holley to be suspended by his party while the investigation is continued.

And at November's full council meeting a Labour motion calling for the three to suspend themselves from their duties while the police investigation continued was voted down.

At the same time the Liberal Democrats — Mr Holley's party — said there were no plans to suspend him.

Mr Hague is an independent councillor.

Mr Kinzett, who made the complaint about the three to chief executive Jack Straw, who then referred it to the ombudsman, told the full council meeting: "Politicians have a responsibility to build confidence in the decision making process."

“Don't know about hypocrisy but there seems to be a world of difference between someone with a poor attendance record and a councillor who is being investigated by police for alleged misconduct and has been suspended by his party.”

“Mr Kinzett says "Politicians have a responsibility to build confidence in the decision making process."......which is why after years of him just reporting his fellow politicians and only attending 5%!!!!! of council meetings, hes been ousted by his party.

Heres me thinking hypocrisy only existed in the Labour Party”
