Police launch big blitz on suspected drug dealers in Neath and Port Talbot
POLICE have kicked down doors across Neath and Port Talbot during a two-day blitz on suspected drug dealers.
They targeted homes in Ynyslee, Llewellyn Street and Marine Drive in Port Talbot, as well as Southgate Street in Neath.
Operation Anvil also saw officers arrest people on suspicion of offences ranging from assault to shoplifting.
Sergeant Geraldine Lewis, of the Neath, neighbourhood policing team said the operation had come as a result of information from members of the public.
“We understand the concerns of the local community, particularly in Southgate Street, where there have been issues raised by the residents,” she added.
“Our action clearly demonstrates our commitment to responding to the needs of our communities.”
A 26-year-old man was arrested and charged with possession of a Class A drug and will appear at Port Talbot Magistrates Court on Thursday, July 1. A 44-year-old man was cautioned for possession of cannabis, while inquiries are continuing into other offences.
Sergeant Melanie Baker, of the Port Talbot neighbourhood policing team, said the community had a big part to play in the fight against crime.
“Many of the warrants executed during Operation Anvil were intelligence-led and much of the information came from people in the community,” she added.
“If anyone has any information or concerns about drugs or the supply of drugs in the community then they should contact the police or Crimestoppers and they can be reassured we will act.
“All the information will be treated confidentially.”
