Police hunt balaclava-wearing burglar
POLICE are hunting for a masked raider who was disturbed while burgling a house in the middle of the day.
The man was in a bedroom of the Townhill house when a relative of the homeowner called at the address — noticing a broken pane of glass in a groundfloor window she went inside to investigate, and as she climbed the stairs the balaclava-wearing burglar ran down the stairs towards her and pushed past her.
He then made-off from the Gwent Road house on foot.
Police say the woman was unhurt but was very frightened by the experience, and they are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
South Wales Police detective constable David Welham said: “This burglary has happened in the middle of the day, and at a property which is located right in the middle of a residential area.
“As we are in the height of summer it would be very unusual for a person to be wearing a balaclava in the middle of the day.
“I am appealing to the residents not only of Gwent Road but also to those in the surrounding streets — if they saw this person or have any relevant information please come forward.”
The break-in happened around 12.25pm on Thursday, August 22, though police have only just released details.
Police have issued a description of a man they want to talk to — he described as being between 5ft 6in and 5ft 8in tall, and of a thin build. He was wearing a black balaclava, and a black hooded top and trousers.
