Police chief's work is praised
THE former head of policing in Swansea has been thanked for his hard work and dedication.
Chief superintendent Mark Mathias retired last week after 32 years in South Wales Police, and at the same time stepped down from the chairmanship of Safer Swansea Partnership which brings together the police, council, fire, health, and probation services, and other organisations.
Swansea Council's director of environment, Reena Owen, is taking over the reins at the partnership.
She said: "There is no doubt that Mark has been committed and forthright in his role as chair of Safer Swansea.

Mr Mathias described being chairman of the partnership as a "privilege", and said that no single organisation could tackle community safety issues as they required many groups to work together.
