POLICE are urging people who may have heard anything on social media linked to a serious sexual assault on a teenager — which took place 12 months ago — to come forward.

Officers are also renewing an appeal for witnesses to the incident to contact them.

The 17-year-old victim was attacked as she walked along a lane which runs between Alltycham Drive and Ffordd Brynheulog, near Pontardawe fire station, in December 2011.

Detective Inspector David Hough, of Neath Port Talbot CID, said: "Twelve months on we are renewing our appeal to the public for information to help us catch this man.

"This investigation is still active and we urge anyone with information or who may have heard anything linked to this attack on social media or through local talk to contact us.

"I am appealing to anyone who may have been in the area a year ago and who may have seen or heard any suspicious activity, or who can assist with the identity of the suspect, to come forward."

The attack happened around 10.15pm on Thursday, December 20, 2011.

Police have released a description of a man they want to talk to connection with the incident.

He is described as skinny, wearing camouflaged trousers and a black hooded top, and speaking with a "local" accent.
