THE 11th running of the Carmarthen & District Pool Memorial Event takes place on July 22.

For the second successive year it will be held at the Railway Club.

For the past seven years the event has been known as the Andrew Brooker Memorial Pool Match, in memory of the popular ex-county player who was tragically killed at the age of 35 in September 2004.

This year's remembrance will feature Carmarthen Dragons A battling it out against a Carmarthen League Select side for the coveted PR & TC Generations Shield. A number of former players have also been invited.

For the first time the event will also be supporting a recognised charity, chosen on Andrew's behalf by his father, Morlais Brooker. Various members of the charity will also be in attendance, and a raffle and mini-auction will be held to help with the fundraising.

Last July the match was played between a Carmarthen League Select and a representative side from St Clears, with the hosts emerging winners by 40 frames to 14.

The organisers will again be using a similar format, with rounds of singles play, speed pool, as well as five person teams being included.

Various presentations will take place throughout the event including the Carmarthen Dragons Players of the Year, the Contribution to County award and the chosen Man of the Match accolades for the day's stand-out performers.

Many of these are named in memory of those who played a huge part in Carmarthen's pool history, and are fondly remembered for their contribution to the game.

A new prize will also be given to the participant who raised the most sponsorship. It is hoped that Andrew's daughter Ffion will present the final awards.

All players are reminded of the strict dress code and to bring their sponsor forms.

The Railway Club will be open from 10am with the event to start at midday. Any former players who have not received an invitation but wish to attend should contact Paul Rees or Tim Coupland.
